Subscription and Non-Subscription Databases in the Resource Room

One of the highlights of attending an IAJGS conference is the wealth of research databases available in the Resource Room.  This year’s selection will have something to please everyone.  There will be both subscription databases that are available at no fee during the conference and a selection of databases by category that are “free” databases.   A previous email discussed ProQuest Day—Wednesday August 10th.  This email announces the other subscription and non-subscription databases.  This is a perfect way to try out the subscription databases before deciding to subscribe!

 

It is best to bring with you an USB drive to make copies of any records/newspaper articles etc. that you may find of value. The links to the databases will only be on the resource room computers and their links/password/ user names will not be shared for your personal computers. No exceptions! You are requested NOT to use your own subscriptions on any of the computers  accessing the subscription databases as many people will be accessing the same computers.

Monday   August 8   9:00AM-6:00 PM

Tuesday August 9    9:00AM-6:00 PM

Wednesday  August 10 9:00AM- 10 PM  ProQuest Day

Thursday August 11 9:00 AM- 5:00 PM  Last Day for Subscription Databases to be available

Friday  August 12  9:00 AM- 12 noon- Subscription databases will NOT be available on Friday

 

Subscription Databases

The subscription databases that will be available during the conference are in alphabetical order:

 

American Ancestors by the New England Historic Genealogical Society

Ancestry.com  -worldwide database

Archives.com  -First time at IAJGS!

Findmypast.com—includes Mocovo.com which has been rolled-into FMP and their entire newspaper database: US, British, Welsh, Irish, and Scottish newspapers

Fold3.com

Geni.com

Genteam.at

Godfrey.org  Premium subscription databases

JewishGen.org

Jewishdata.com  Images of Jewish Tombstones, school yearbook pages and Citizen Declaration documents.

MyHeritage.com –all databases including their newspaper database

Newspapers.com

 

USHMM-will have Holocaust databases that are usually available only in-house on dedicated computers. Additionally, they will have photographs of Bitola/Monastir (Macedonia) . The USHMM representatives are:  Megan Lewis and Teresa Polin

Yad Vashem-will have the ITS database and other databases traditionally only available at Yad Vashem- on their own laptop computers. The Yad Vashem representatives are:  Dr. Alex Avraham and Zvi Berhardt

 

JGSs

 

Several JGSs and SIGs that have databases that are usually accessible only to their dues-paid members have agreed to make the databases available to all conference attendees in the resource room.

These JGSs are:

 

Cercle de Généalogie Juive

Israel Genealogical Society (IGS)

Israel Genealogy Research Association (IGRA)

 

In addition, both  the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Yad Vashem will have dedicated computers for databases that are not available to the public on the Internet. Both will be offering consultations.  Conference attendees must sign-up for the consultations. More information about the consultations will be available at the conference. There are no pre-conference opportunities for signing-up.  There will be no consultations on ProQuest Day- Wednesday August 10.
