DR. SERGEY KRAVTSOV TO SPEAK AT GESHER GALICIA LUNCHEON AT IAJGS CONFERENCE 2016

It is with pleasure that Gesher Galicia announces our luncheon speaker at the 
IAJGS Conference in Seattle, Dr Sergey Kravtsov, who will present a talk on 
“Galician Jewish Families: Histories and Legends”. Dr Kravtsov will describe 
how many prominent Galician Jewish families became deeply involved in local and 
regional culture, and how Jewish family legends were constructed and 
circulated. The luncheon will take place on Monday, August 8, at 11:45 AM - 
1:15 PM.

On Tuesday, August 9, from 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM, Dr Kravtsov will present a second 
talk on “Synagogues of Galicia as Cultural Heritage”. From the sixteenth 
century until World War I, construction of synagogues in Galicia was a vibrant 
activity, resulting in a variety of types, styles and decoration. The 
preservation of this heritage is a challenge for today’s generation.

Dr Sergey R. Kravtsov is a Senior Research Associate at the Center for Jewish 
Art, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Born in Lviv, Ukraine, he trained 
there as an architect. He received his doctorate in architectural history in 
Moscow in 1993, and moved to Israel in 1994.

Entry to the luncheon on August 8, including to the presentation by the 
speaker, will not be allowed without a luncheon ticket, and you must be 
registered for the Conference in order to attend the luncheon. 

Sunday evening, July 10, is the final opportunity to order or change meals you 
wish to have during the Conference.  That includes all of the SIG lunches, the 
Gala Banquet, and the box lunches each day.  There are non-kosher and kosher 
options for all events.
