Reminder About ProQuest Day August 10, 2016

Each year at the IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy we are privileged to have selected ProQuest library databases available to us to use in the Resource Room.   We are the ONLY genealogy conference where the ProQuest Historical Newspapers, NewspaperArchive Library Edition, ProQuest Obituaries, Records of the US Immigration and Naturalization Service, Digital Sanborn Maps and this year adding Periodicals Archive Online are available.  We have one LONG day to take advantage of these wonderful resources:  Wednesday August 10 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM.  The resource room will stay open late for this one day to maximize everyone’s opportunity to take advantage of this conference resource.  As in with past conferences, if there is a long waiting line to use the computers there will be a sign-in sheet and users will be limited to the amount of time they can be at the computer at any one time.

ProQuest’s products are only available in academic and public libraries, and other institutional libraries.   This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance your research by taking advantage of these resources. Come to the resource room prepared with who and what you want to research to maximize the time at the computer.  While there will be 23 undedicated computers in the resource room from past experience there is a line out the door to take advantage of this conference resource.  Only the resource room computers will have the access link to ProQuest—your personal computer/tablet/smartphones will not be permitted to have the link—no exceptions!  To save printing paper, bring a USB drive to download copies of the articles that you want to save for printing and saving to your home computer after the conference.  Only conference attendees may take advantage of the resource room.

Bill Forsyth, the senior product manager for ProQuest will be in the Resource Room during the day on August 10.  He will give a brief overview how to achieve the best search results twice during August 10—the times are 10:30 AM, 1:30 PM and  6:00PM and will be posted outside the Resource Room in addition to other announcements about this. Bill will also be available during the day on August 10 to assist IAJGS conference attendees with their research questions using the ProQuest resources.

A different posting will list all of the other subscription and non-subscription databases that will be available in the Resource Room-including Ancestry.com, Findingmypast.com. Fold3.com, JewishData.com, MyHeritage.com, and many more.
